Cold meat relish-aka Indian Sauce (by May Morrow)

Fall is upon us and you may be left wondering what to do with your garden's bounty. Of course in the old days there wasn't really as much of an opportunity to run to the store when you ran low on relishes, etc, so there are plenty of recipes for home made pickles/relishes, jams and preserves. I think a lot of people have probably never had fresh relishes or sauces made for them, so why not try a few recipes out this fall, and treat them your friends to a basket of homemade preserves? Cold meat relish- 24 Ripe tomatoes 24 Large apples 10 onions 2 red peppers 1/2 cup salt(small 1/2 cup) 1qt vinegar 1 lbs brown sugar 1/4 mustard. Boil tomatoes , apples, onions and peppers till they mash through a sieve, then add 1 qt vinegar, sugar, small 1/2 cup salt, mustard. Boil 20 minutes. It's not written in the recipe, but I'm going to guess they mean boil it, then hot seal/can it in the jars for storage.
